Municipalities of Rockdale & Kogarah

Location: 17 kilometres south of Sydney.

In 1830, 100 acres of land were granted to Catherine Cooper. In 1853, Thomas Holt acquired land in this district and built a home for his wife. The house was called Sans Souci, French for 'without a care'. During the 1860's, Thomas Holt's focus shifted to the Sutherland area. William Rust then acquired the home, opened it as a hotel, and some time later the name of this house was adopted by the surrounding area, which now comprises contemporary Sans Souci.
